Outings and excursions

Throughout the year, the city of Lyon and Institut Lyonnais offer various outings to take part in local life, cultivate and entertain you.

  • January:
    Epiphany. Before you savoring the galette accompanied by a bowl of cider, a wine or a soft drink, teachers will explain the origin of this tradition.
  • May:
    Nuits Sonores. Created in 2003, the Nuits Sonores festival now includes more than 100 000 spectators per year and 250 artists worldwide in nearly 50 places in the city.
  • June:
    Music festival. The Music Festival, launched in 1982 in France, now takes place in over one hundred countries in the world,
  • September:
    European Heritage Days. On the model of "Open Days of Historical Monuments' created in 1984 by the French Ministry of Culture, they are now taken up by fifty countries.
  • December:
    Christmas market. Since 1997 takes place the Christmas Market on Place Carnot Lyon.
    Christmas party at the Institute. The Lyon Institute organizes each year a festive meal in which all students are encouraged to animate (dances, songs…) coating their national costumes and make their national dishes.

We also suggest the following outings and excursions. Subject to sufficient participants, Institut Lyonnais can take care of the organization.

Day trip to the mountains

A day in a ski resort near Lyon.

Transportation by luxury coach from Lyon, day ski pass for skiers, snacks/breakfast and accompanist.

Museum of Fine Arts and the Painted walls

The Lyon Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest French and European museums.

The painted walls of Lyon are known for their diversity and beauty. Created by the CitéCréation cooperative, they are now part of the heritage of the city.

Old Lyon and Gallo-Roman museum

The Old Lyon is one of the first conservation areas in France since 1964 and one of the largest sets of Renaissance Europe (24 ha). The archaeological garden on the lower slopes of the hill of Fourvière is a relic of the medieval era.

The Gallo-Roman museum hosts one of the richest archaeological collections in France.

Boat ride on the Rhône and the Saône and The Confluence

The Confluence is first 150 ha of a modern urban development in the south of the peninsula at the junction of the Rhône and the Saône. A vast commercial space, water gardens, a natural history museum and modern and original companies.

Tête d'Or Park and museum of modern art

The Tête d'Or Park includes a 16-ha lake created from a branch of the Rhône, a zoo and a botanic garden. The museum of modern art is devoted to temporary exhibitions. Plan a picnic.

Excursion to Pérouges

36 kilometers north-east from Lyon, this ancient city retains traces of its medieval past.

Program: tour and tasting of local specialties which are the cake of Pérouges and the wine of Cerdon.

Excursion to Annecy

The Venice of the Alps is a tourist and beach town with many activities. Annecy is internationally renowned for the beauty of its architecture, its history, its quality of life, the lake and the mountains,

Boat ride on the Saône

Lift on the Saône and the history of Lyon, from the old town declared heritage of humanity to the picturesque Île Barbe north of Lyon.

The convent of La Tourette

Convent and foster home, sharing, reflection and prayer, outstanding example of modern architecture, whose architect, Le Corbusier, said "We can't speak of: we have to live it from the inside" You eat on site.

The Chauvet cave

The prehistoric cave decorated with the Pont d'Arc is a World Heritage Site of Unesco.
