ADMINISTRATIVE
FORMALITIES
Whatever your nationality or the duration of
your stay in France, please get in touch with
the closest French Consulate before your
departure.
If you decide to stay less than 3 months: you
are considered as a tourist by the French
authorities. You will need a valid passport with
or without a visa or only an identity card (depending
on the country).
If you plan to stay more than 3 months: a long
term visa is necessary before you leave (except
for the european union).
As soon as you arrive in Lyons, you will have to
go to the 'Préfecture du Rhône' with the
following documents:
• Lodging certificate of your accomodation in
Lyons.
• Documents showing your financial situation.
In this case, two solutions are possible: either
you open a bank account in Lyons on which you
have the amount of money required or will
receive an certain fixed amount monthly or a
family member or friend will decide to support
you financially as long as you will stay in
France. He or she needs to show copies of the
last three months payslips and the income tax
form of the year before.
• The copy of your formal registration at
Institut Lyonnais.
• Two colored, recent identification photos.
REGULARIZATION
OF YOUR MEDICALE INSURANCE
It is about protecting you in accident of
illness cases during your stay.
Before you leave: get information about your
student situation in France from your insurance
company. Make sure that an agreement exists
betwen both countries which will assure the
continuation of your insurance. If there is no
such agreement, you will need to get temporary
insurance in Lyon:
• From the 'Sécurité Sociale' (public insurance).
• From a private company for foreign students (see
with us).

MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION
PLANE
The international Airport of Lyons Saint-Exupéry is 30
minutes away from the center of Lyon by bus, every 20
minutes from 5am to 11pm (name of the bus is Satobus).
The airport has flights towards and from more than 40
cities: Brussels, Tokyo, Montreal, Berlin, Athens,
Dakar, Mexico, Moscow, Peking, Rome, Rio de Janeiro,
Amsterdam, Oslo, Los Angeles, etc. 1 to 2 hours from all
europeans cities.
National flights: more than 40 French cities: Paris,
Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Marseilles, Nice, Nantes, Lille,
etc.
TRAIN
There are three train stations in Lyons: Part Dieu
and Perrache in the city center, and Lyons Saint-Exupéry
(the airport) with 75,000 travellers per day, 46 daily

Lyons is a cross-section in the middle of Europe:
every motorway leads to Lyons!
